Finding a New Fragrance

I don't want to find a new signature fragrance. Isn't the point of having a signature fragrance is to not have to go through finding another scent? With Tova, when you walk in the room, people won't notice a blatant smell as if you drenched yourself in perfume, so they know that you're coming from afar even without seeing you. Rather, people will notice, as you pass them by, a sweet and soft scent. The original Tova is still THE ultimate fragrance, but the likelihood of it coming back may be slim. There is no replacement, but we'd like your suggestions for (not necessarily similar) new scents and products. It's time to broaden our scent horizons.

Here's a quick review of something you might like. I recently bought Lacoste Pour Femme 3 ounce spray from Perfumania at the mall. Buy one and get another for $10 more. It doesn't smell like Tova, but it smells so fresh and clean. It doesn't last as long either and could be used for an everyday scent. The bottling doesn't look very feminine. Don't let that fool you, it's definitely a feminine scent that's fresh and flirty.

Try Gucci. Smells like a warm honey-spice scent with a touch of white florals but not that much on the feminine side. A good one if you like woody orientals.

you could smell like a book or library with the "in the library" perfume. lol

Stick to a favorite fragrance and people will instantly think of you once they smell that scent. Strong associations with scents can last a lifetime.

Try some musk oils - google Huntington Scentsationals and The Fragrance Shoppe. Both stores have stunning musks - especially the Egyptian and Arabian Musks.

Also, eBay has sellers that sell Cabot Musk Oil (or you can go directly to the Cabot Labs website).

Narciso Rodriguez Musc for Her Oil (the oil form is the sexiest) is a sweet, light musk scent that has some similar notes.....very pricey though - over 100.00 for a bottle, but it lasts and lasts. [Sephora carries it]

Clean Ultimate Eau de Parfum Spray (sold on HSN) is in the similar musk-based category of original Tova Signature, but it doesn't have the sweet jasmine notes.

And, as I'd mentioned in another post, Tova Platinum is as close to the original as I think it's going to get. When I began wearing it last autumn I did start to get compliments again!

You would think a big perfume company would come in and copy the scent....since the first one seems gone and never to return. What a shame. I wore it for 25 years.

I miss the original Tova and have just not bothered with anything else since. What a shame something so beautiful had to end.

I have loved TOVA forever.....bought all four "new" scents...not the same, don't smell it after a while, no one says anything. I loved the way that my clothes smelled, me everything......

THE SUPPOSEDLY NEW TOVA DOESN'T SMELL LIKE THE OLD NOT EVEN CLOSE, AND IT DOSESN'T LAST EITHER. I WORE FROM THE BEGINNING. COMPLIMENTS FOR YEARS AND NOT ANY MORE...AS MUCH AS WE LIKED IT LADIES THE HECK WITH TOVA. SHE LOOKS AND ACTS SINCERE BUT IN REALITY IS NOT...WE WERE GREAT CUSTOMERS FOR WE LOVED THE PERFUME AND THEN SHE TREATED US WITH DISDAIN AND TOOK IT AWAY. THERE ARE A LOT OF PERFUMES OUT THERE AND IT'S OBVIOUS SHE DON'T CARE ABOUT US SO I WILL LOOK ELSE WHERE. EVIDENTLY, SHE IS NOT A PERSON YOU CAN DEPEND UPON, I NEVER HAVE KNOWN ANYONE TO CHANGE A FRAGRANCE AS SHE DID. I GUESS YOU COULD SAY WE WERE USED.....SHE DOESN'T DESERVE US. WE MADE HER BUSINESS GREAT AND SHE LEFT US IN THE LURCH...

Tova was on QVC this morning 6/14/11....is she selling the older classic version or is it still the QVC knockoff? I did not purchase but really want the older fragrance back like everyone else. Can anyone out there hear us?? Does anyone care for our business??

The Tova Turquoise was my replacement for Tova Signature, and I received many compliments on the lovely fragrance. However, this has now also disappeared from QVC - what has QVC done to such a successful brand ? I don't believe it's Tova's doing .....
I have now purchased Light Blue by D&G and am quite happy with this.

There is no replacement for Tova sadly. You can try other "clean" scents but they are not the same. I have tried a mix of musk oil with pure grace and get the same "feeling" but its nothing like the original

I have been using Tova since it came out and I'm also VERY disappointed that it is gone. Don't they know we all want it back? They are losing lots of money. Sigh. Very sad.

I finally found something I like..but it's so expensive...it lasts a long time and I get LOTS of compliments...it's by Creed and it's called Silver Mountain Water.

I have been looking for a new fragance ever since Tova decided to care more about money than her loyal clientele. I just purchased Cool Water by Davidoff. It's clean and suttle but nothing like the old Tova Classic. Does anyone know all the ingredients in Tova? Maybe one of us can profit from this...

I DID find a TOVA Signature replacement! I literally stopped a lady on the street and asked her if she was wearing TOVA. She didn't know what I was talking about, so I asked her if she could 'please' tell me what she was wearing. She had a French accent, and it sounded like she said "Dizon". I didn't want to be rude and ask her to write it down, but I should have because I can't find anything remotely close, or anything that sounds like Dizon. I tried sampling a few of Celion Dion's perfume (in case that's what she meant/said), but no luck. Then I tried Bijan (original & Black, and waste of money there!) Does anyone have a clue as to what perfume she might have been talking about? Whatever perfume she was wearing NAILED it and I used to buy the original TOVA at the store in Beverly Hills when it was a brick & morter building.

I wore Tova Signature from the early 80's until it went to QVC. As you can see, to this day I'm trying to find a replacement. Please email me if you find something! My email is chrissielisi@gmail.com.

To Anonymous is trying to decode what the French woman said ("Dizon"); did you look at a list of perfume names beginning with the letter D? http://www.parfumo.net/Brands

Anonymous said...

Maybe the French woman said "j'Adore? Every perfume smells different on different people... I've smelled fragrances on friends that smelled Tova- like on them, but didn't even come close on me.

I've ordered a sample of o d'azur by LancĂ´me...maybe that is what the French woman was wearing?! (See post above.) I'll
let you all know!

I also wore the original Tova from the time of its inception. Everyone loved it including my children. I often purchased it for friends, co- workers, etc, because of the profuse compliments. I too have tried many other scents and some I like very much... but nothing and I do mean nothing has even made me as happy as Tova. I couldn't believe the rush of sadness I just felt when reading these posts. I thought I had fully recovered; but no, still sad, angry and frustrated. Dear Lord, what a drug!

I just found a website called scentmatchers.com and they claim to have matched tova original so I ordered a bottle, will let you know. Cost fairly reasonable 70.00 plus shipping.

Unknown said...

I've also ordered from scentmatchers. I'm hopeful they will match the fragrance. Will try to remember to report back.

I tried Scentmatchers smelled the same when I sprayed but did not last.

I was told by QVC that they never purchased Tova, only allowed to sell it. Tova was sold to COty Perfume Company, but they had problems with production, so it's not available.

I Believe there was an ingredient problem... using whale oil or something to do with that..

I finally bought Tova for the first time thru QVC. I dreamed of this perfume for years and was so happy to have finally found it. The formula has obviously changed. It smells like it has gone bad. I am so upset. It's past the month warranty and I can't even return it. The formula has been altered. The same thing happened to my mothers favorite fragrance called Spring Fever from Origins. The perfume had changed from a fresh clean scent to an old stale perfume smell like it went rancid. After much research we were told that the carrier oil was changed. I wonder if that's what happened with Tova. Someday I hope the true Tova can be created again. It was a unique scent that was like nothing else on the market. I will never buy fragrance from QVC again. Sorry I ever ordered it.

I was gutted when I could not buy original TOVA for men that I used through out the 80s and 90s. For men, women love it; and so do I. It's deleted and cannot be found anywhere. It's like nothing else on Earth. Please please please bring it back. Karl from England, UK.

I was just checking in to see if anyone found the name of a close match to Tova Nights. The Arabian secret musk is the closest I've found yet. Any suggestions?

Could the " dizon " perfume be Paul Sebastion's " Design " ? You'll note some of the ingredients are the same as in Tova and Design includes "civit" which some people on other websites say is the missing ingredient in Tova. Design seems to get high ratings for lasting all day and interestingly is not expensive. I too long for the " old " Tova and continue to look for a replacement.
